Supporting a Balanced and Well Connected Life Through Active Aging
The 5th–6th Grade Sports Sampler is a FREE after-school program designed for Fridley Middle School students in grades 5 and 6. YMCA coaches will lead students through a variety of sports and active games (such as basketball, soccer, flag football, and more). The focus is on learning skills, building confidence, and being part of a positive team—no prior experience needed and all equipment is provided.
All genders and ability levels are welcome, and a snack is provided each day. Students may also use the 4:45 p.m. activity bus in alignment with district transportation procedures. No sessions are held during school closure days. No snack or transportation available for the summer session. Students should sign up for one session only in order to allow for each student to participate once if desired.
Funding for this project was provided by the Anoka County Children and Family Council (ACCFC), a collaborative initiative of school districts, community providers, and the county that promotes resilience and improved outcomes for children and families. This program is offered in partnership through Fridley Community Education and the YMCA. The goal of this grant is to increase access to high-quality after-school opportunities for middle-level students.
