Classroom training can be taken by students who are 14-1/2 years or older and consists of 10 three-hour lessons. Each lesson is independent and can be taken in any order. If a lesson is missed, the student can make it up when and where it is convenient at a Safeway classroom or contact Safeway for more information. Lesson calendars are available on Safeway’s web site. Safewaydrivingschool.com Behind-the-wheel training consists of 3 two-hour private lessons which can be scheduled online or by calling Safeway’s office (651-351-9150). Great Decisions
Instructional
Starting Soon
The Great Decisions Discussion Program is designed to encourage debate and discussion of the important global issues of our time. Developed by the Foreign Policy Association in 1954, the Great Decisions Discussion Program is the longest standing and largest grassroots world affairs educational program of its kind. The program provides materials that help people reach informed opinions on the issues and participate in the foreign policy process. A Briefing Book places the thematic or geographic issue in historical context and provides background, current policies and alternative policy options. Photographs, maps, charts and editorial cartoons illustrate the text. An opinion ballot for the National Opinion Ballot Report accompanies each topic so that readers can express their views. This program meets at 10:00 AM at the Fridley Community Center. Please call 763-502-5150 to register. Cost is payable ahead of time or at the door. Mideast Realignment - February 21st The United States and Middle East are at a crossroads. In spite of a reduced presence in the Middle East, the U.S. still has significant national interests there and the area is a key arena for global power politics. Can the U.S. continue to defend its interests in the Middle East and globally with a lower level of military and political involvement, or should it recommit to a leading role in the region? NATO's Future - March 20 Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has come under increased scrutiny, not because NATO troops are involved in the conflict, but because of its role in relations between Russia and its neighbors. Will expanding membership in NATO protect countries, or will it further provoke Russia? Climate Technology & Competition - April 17 Will the United States and China, with other powerful countries following suit, approach current and future climate initiatives with an increased commitment to trade protectionism and nationalism, by various measures including trade restrictions? Or could a growing spirit of international accord develop to confront the “common enemy” of climate change? Understanding Indonesia - May 15 Despite its large size, Indonesia remains virtually invisible to most Americans. But as one of the world’s largest democracies, the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, and as an economic driver of ASEAN, why does it fly below the radar? What are current issues in U.S.-Indonesian relations, and what role can the country play in Asia?

Why You Can't Always Trust Your Trust
Finance & Business
The trust is a very popular component and tool to be used in our Estate Planning. However, there is a variety of vastly different Trust options to be used and the question arises: “Am I using the right Trust for my needs and goals?” Often used Trusts include: Living Trusts, Testamentary Trusts and Irrevocable Trusts, each serves a different purpose, each has a different result. One common problem that often needs addressing is the over-utilization of the Living Trust for goals or problems that it does not resolve. For example, “Does my Living Trust protect my assets against Medicaid and the nursing home?” The answer is probably not. The Irrevocable Trust and the Testamentary Trust each have their strengths and weaknesses as well. We will clearly define the strengths and weaknesses of these different types of Trusts and when to use them. Explore your goals and wishes to see where they fall in the realm of Trusts. Class encourages questions and we hope to provide answers that will set your mind at ease or assist you in the decision making in this area.

So Your Thinking of Leaving Minnesota, An Attorney's Perspective On How To Do It
Finance & Business
A vital part of every retirement or resettlement discussion involves the roadmap of issues that help us decide where we want to call home! Is it Taxes, the Political Landscape, the Weather, the location of Family assets, Debt or Income concerns in Retirement, Cost of Living, Health Concerns or . . . our Friends are already there! When should we start this discussion? Did you know many States do not tax Social Security, Pensions or other Qualified Retirement Income sources? Which are the worst states for Estate Taxes? How do we establish Domicile? How about quality of medical resources and retirement facilities – who is good, who is not-so-good? All these issues will be raised and discussed in an open and friendly manner with questions encouraged.
